Marriage Preparation

With the divorce rate in the United States just above 50% the Catholic churches have adopted policies regarding Marriage Preparation which must be followed before a Catholic wedding will be authorized.

This should not be seen as an obstacle to your wedding, but a chance to bring the two of you closer together and to insure a lasting marriage.

We are aware that many of our couples are coming to Hawaii for their marriage, and will not be available for formal Marriage Preparation (Precana) Classes before the wedding date. This is why we have decided to partner with Catholic Marriage Preparation, Inc. and offer their Online Marriage Preparation Course to our Roman Catholic Couples. If you are a Catholic cuple, but not Roman Catholic, we are working on another comparable online course for you as well.

If you are already taking the required precanna classes with your parish priest, we will accept the certificate of completion from them as fulfillment of our precanna requirement.

The online classes are very thorough and follow exactly the same curriculum as the live classes Christine and Christian teach in both the Archdiocese of Denver and the Diocese of Colorado Springs, and the Diocese of Scranton. They are deeply rooted in Scriptures, the guidance of the Catholic Church and John Paul II's Theology of the Body.

Below is a brief description and overview of the online course

If it is impossible for you to attend an Engaged Encounter weekend or a Pre Cana conference, your pastor may permit you to take a course of preparation via the Internet. Talk with him about Catholic Marriage Preparation, Inc.

Catholic Marriage Preparation is an online program based on Pope John Paul IIs theology of the body and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The program provides print and CD study materials and requires the completion of five worksheets, which are submitted electronically. The program covers these and other topics:

ˇ Vocation of man and woman

ˇ Sin and its consequences

ˇ The Sacrament of Matrimony

ˇ Letter of St. Paul to the Ephesians

ˇ Humanae Vitae and conscience

ˇ The Rite of Marriage

ˇ Freedom, self-gift, faithfulness, and openness to life

ˇ Forgiveness

ˇ Your body is a temple

ˇ Relationship tools

ˇ Potential problems in marriage

ˇ Praying together

This course costs $150 including materials and personalized responses to each workshop. You may register by phone (866-425-7193) or at the Catholic Marriage Preparation, Inc website. You must have permission of the priest assisting your marriage preparation to take this online course instead of attending Engaged Encounter or Pre Cana.

THE COURSE

How Long? from one week minimum to three months maximum, at your own pace!

How? You will fill nine (9) worksheets total. See detail below.

You will be assigned a personal instructor who will follow you throughout the course. Your instructor will answer personally to each of your worksheets.

You will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the course which is to be forwarded to us so that we can approve your marriage
