Receiving Your Hawaii Marriage Certificate

Remember, a marriage license and a marriage certificate are different documents. The marriage license allows a marriage to take place while the marriage certificate is a document that shows a marriage has been performed. Your marriage performer will file the documents necessary for you to receive a copy of your marriage certificate.

The State of Hawaii Health Department will mail the Certified Copy of your Marriage Certificate to the address shown on the license within 60 to 120 days after the marriage is performed. If you need your Marriage Certificate faster we offer an Expedited Processing & Filing Service in which you can get a Certified Copy of your Marriage Certificate normally within 10 business days.

International Certification — for non-United States citizens

If you are visiting Hawaii from another country and are not a citizen of the United States, you can minimize problems when you return to your country by being prepared with the appropriate Apostille Stamp, Notary Certification, or Embassy Legalization. If your country is a Member State of the Hague Conference you may only be required to get the Apostille Stamp. Contact Us to find out exactly what form of certification or legalization your marriage certificate will need for the foreign country.
