St. Peter's Catholic Church, also known as the "Little Blue Church",
located on the Big Island of Hawaii south of Kona on the
west side of the island, was
built in 1889 on the site of an ancient Hawaiian heiau.
Though the property and building are owned by the Roman
Catholic Church, it is used as a wedding chapel, and is no
longer in use as a Roman Catholic parish. Today, many
couples choose this quaint chapel for their wedding. Roman
Catholic weddings can not be performed here, however,
Catholic wedding ceremonies can be performed here by our
Ecumenical Catholic Archbishop.
This tiny little church is located right on the
ocean and surrounded by colorful floral bushes.
There are only a dozen pews and an alter, but the
setting is very serene. A beautiful etched glass
window casts soft light over the entire church,
especially during the sunset.
This
quaint little church is made of clapboard with a
corregated tin roof.
